ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The HRBP is a highly influential role that contributes to the organization in delivering both strategic and operational HR outcomes to support business strategy.  Working within a team of HR professionals, the HRBP works closely with division leaders and managers to facilitate the effective and efficient operation of HR processes and programs, including compensation & benefits, recruitment & selection, disability management & attendance support, performance management, leadership development, and succession planning. The HRBP ensures best practices and compliance with established legislation, demonstrating leadership in developing strategies to successfully attract, develop, motivate, and retain staff in support of Ontario Northland business needs. 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with managers within our divisions to administer effective HR procedures and oversee the full employee lifecycle including coaching, employee development, and performance improvement plans, policy and Collective Agreement interpretation, absence management and any employee relations issues
  • Partner with leadership to identify their needs, and assist them by building effective practices, policies and programs to best support both the business and employees
  • Proactively identifies employee trends or issues and advises managers on appropriate actions and solutions
  • Creates positive employee relations by executing on HR strategy and addressing complex performance management and employee issues
  • Support the company’s diversity initiatives and may maintain records of equal employment opportunities and affirmative action reporting requirements
  • Manage Disability claims and requests for Accommodation in support of Early and Safe Return to Work
  • Participate in the onboarding of Supervisor and Management employees to create a positive new hire experience
  • Use appropriate communication channels to ensure wide-spread understanding of HR policies, programs, and procedures
  • Conduct research and analyze data on assigned projects
  • The role will involve other HR-related responsibilities as required
  • Occasional travel will be required
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Professional certification in Human Resources Management (CHRP/CHRL/CHRE)
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of disability management and attendance support program best practices and legislative issues, with experience in the ongoing case management of health-related absences;
  • Foundational knowledge of compensation and benefits
  • Skilled at building professional relationships across multiple levels and disciplines in the organization
  • Experience with retention, employee engagement and motivation issues/concerns
  • Understanding of Federal and Provincial legislation pertaining to employment related matters, employment contracts and compliance requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with different levels across the organization
  • Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Valid G driver’s license and ability to travel when required
  • Positive and solution-focused attitude, calm, composed, self-aware and collaborative
  • Ability to support employees and leaders remotely as needed
  • Openness to perform other duties to support the HR team as required
  • Ability to exercise appropriate levels of discretion and confidentiality
