POSITION:                Terminal Watchman 
REPORTS TO:          Equipment Supervisor
DEPARTMENT:         Rail Mechanical

REFERENCE:           300-154-26
RATE OF PAY:          $25.27 to $28.07 per hour per hour (increases set out as per the collective
                                  agreement. Full rate effective after 1 year of service)

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Engine Watchman will be required to wash and clean railway equipment, parts, shop facilities, coach exteriors and company vehicles.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleaning/washing of coaches, locomotives and shop facilities
  • May include Engine Attendant duties (operating locomotives and forklifts, turning switches, fueling, and watering locomotives)
  • May include Material Handling duties (preparing, procuring, obtaining, delivering or distributing parts, equipment or materials)
  • Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment
  • Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing and equipment
  • May work various shifts including weekends and some work outdoors in adverse weather
  • Supervision of summer students
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School diploma (OSSD) or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Previous cleaning / labour experience is considered an asset
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Must be available for shift work
  • Work a minimum of two (2) years in the position before applying for other opportunities
  • Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are fluent in English, French and Cree
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • A sound working knowledge of computers and appropriate keyboarding skills
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence and be able to operate motorized warehouse equipment 
  • Committed to Company Health and Safety standards and practices 
  • Previous railway experience would be an asset
