RATE OF PAY:          $30.74 per hour Apprentice Rate (with increases based on school) $40.33 per hour certified

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Signal Maintainer (Project and Relieving) is a permanent full-time position. This role performs a wide range of signal work across the system “as and where required” in addition to assisting with capital project support, vacation, illness, and peak workloads.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Construct, maintain and repair designated signal equipment (track signal circuits) as assigned
  • Carry out scheduled system tests, record results and maintain records as required
  • Assist in the installation, removal or alteration of various signal appliances or their associated track circuitry as required
  • Respond to emergency repair situations during and after regular working hours, sometimes on holidays and weekends
  • Be in good physical condition to perform job duties outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Responsible for assigned work equipment within their division
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Comprehensive Training and Signals Certification included — invest in your growth with support every step of the way (Two‑year commitment required post‑certification)
  • Applicants must demonstrate willingness to receive training as deemed necessary in the field of railway signaling
  • This is considered a safety-sensitive position; therefore, applicants must pass Transport Canada mandated medical examinations including testing for color vision & hearing acuity
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Secondary School Diploma or GED
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a current certificate of training from a recognized Railway Signal Training course or those possessing a college/university diploma/degree in the electrical/electronic field
  • Strong aptitude for the electrical/ electronic field
  • Applicants must be motivated self-starters, capable of working alone or in a group
  • Must possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid passport and the ability to travel to the USA for training
  • Ability to travel 90% of the time including some overnight stays as required   
  • Experience working in a railway environment is considered an asset
  • Ability to understand/pass Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), safety rules and any other rules deemed necessary by the company
