ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and reporting financial and statistical data for both internal and external stakeholders. This role ensures that Managers and Executives receive timely, accurate financial information to support informed decision-making.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare monthly divisional financial statements.
  • Monitor and report month-to-month fluctuations and budget-to-actual variances to the appropriate manager.
  • Analyze monthly costs to ensure alignment with PSAB rules; reallocate expenses as needed.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly budget-to-actual variance reports for Project Manager review.
  • Monitor capital project expenditures to ensure proper classification as capital or operating.
  • Collaborate with Capital Project Managers to update monthly forecasts and projected spending.
  • Assist with capital charters, closures, and requests for additional funding.
  • Investigate actual expenditures and support forecasting efforts.
  • Research potential funding opportunities.
  • Prepare documentation for the Capital Asset Management Plan (CAMP), including historical plans, Ministry expectations, and consultation outcomes.
  • Meet with Capital Project Managers to review CAMP and discuss potential changes.
  • Manage the Fixed Asset Ledger, including calculating and recording new fixed assets, processing depreciation journals, retiring obsolete assets, investigating asset discrepancies, and conducting fixed asset counts.
  • Manage bi-weekly invoicing and respond to expenditure-related inquiries.
  • Conduct analysis projects such as historical trends and future spending projections.
  • Develop and maintain financial procedures and documentation.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • University degree in Business Administration or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Financial Analyst or similar role.
  • CPA designation required (or pursuing)
  • Knowledge of accounting practices
  • Must possess strong computer skills 
  • Experience needed in downloading and manipulating data
  • AS400/Infinium and Sequel or other “query” based computer software training are a definite asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to solve problems effectively
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership abilities
  • Strategic and critical thinker with sound judgment
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Skilled at evaluating and synthesizing information from various sources to support decision-making
