ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Locomotive Reliability Specialist is pivotal in overseeing the locomotive maintenance program, ensuring that regular checks, inspections, and repairs are systematically conducted. This role involves continuous improvement and enhancement of the maintenance program to adapt to evolving needs. The incumbent will ensure strict adherence to work scopes, meet customer requirements, and guarantee that all maintenance work on both internal and external locomotives complies with the specified standards.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide input during the establishment of maintenance schedules, procedures, enhancements, and retrofits for new and existing locomotives
  • Investigate locomotive problems and recommend corrective actions
  • Offer technical support to maintenance contractors and employees for locomotive-related matters
  • Review and analyze all locomotives’ reliability key performance indicators, identify failure trends, develop reliability improvement strategies and processes, and complete reliability studies for the customer
  • Inspect and review locomotives prior to release from the shop to confirm all required work as per inspections and maintenance program is complete
  • Advise on process improvements for the locomotive maintenance program, including but not limited to locomotive engines and overhauls
  • Support the fleet maintenance program by ensuring maintenance schedules are adhered to
  • Monitor component reliability through statistical tracking to identify problem areas and suggest resolutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and enhancements to improve locomotive efficiency and reliability
  • Provide support to mechanical operations through shop floor support
  • Participate in root cause analysis on daily locomotive failures or troubleshooting as required
  • Conduct thorough reviews to evaluate the overall condition of the customer’s locomotive
  • Implement action plans to ensure the proper functionality of the locomotive and that all requirements are met for the delivery of service and the fulfillment of contractual obligations
  • Inspect and review external locomotives to confirm the scope of work has been met prior to release to the customer
  • Collaborate with the management team to advise on opportunities, areas of improvement, and project gaps to ensure external locomotive project work is achieved as per specifications.
  • Communicate with external customers regarding the scope of work, timelines, and suggest improvements for locomotive overhauls

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Secondary School Diploma or GED
  • Certificate of Qualification in one of the following trades: Truck and Coach, Heavy Equipment Technician, Automotive Technician, Electrician, Metal Fabricator, Pipefitter, Railway Car Technician
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the maintenance, design, manufacturing, and repair of equipment used in railroad or transit operations
  • Experience in any of the following areas: engine overhauls, interpreting wiring and piping schematics, mechanical drawings, preventive maintenance, service inspections, painting, traction motor replacements, and electrical upgrades and diagnostics
  • Experience working in a unionized setting is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations established by Transport Canada (TC) and the American Association of Railways (AAR)
  • Solid understanding of all trades and concepts, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AS400, Intelex, SharePoint
  • Valid Ontario class “G” driver's license 
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral)
  • Organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Self directed with strong problem solving and analytical skills
