The Track and Machinery Trainer is responsible for assisting in the development of track and equipment training programs, as well as delivering the training programs to employees.

The Track and Machinery Trainer is responsible for assisting in the development of track and equipment training programs, as well as delivering the training programs to employees.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides hands-on training and mentoring to employees regarding track upgrades, maintenance, repair and new employee orientation
- Provides hands-on training and mentoring for new and existing operators on various types of equipment
- Instructs new and existing operators on the general servicing and housekeeping practices
- Trains, observes, and tests operators on the operations of track machines and equipment; qualifies / disqualifies operators as required
- Trains, observes, and tests employees on the maintenance of track
- Assess priorities for training / mentoring for various machines and track forces and works with manpower coordinator to set training schedules
- Maintains updated files and accurate records of training qualifications and mentoring
- Reviews and provides comments on the various machine operator training manuals and work procedures for updating
- Assists in the development of new machine operator training manuals for new or leased equipment
- Assists in the development of qualification tests
- Provides in the field guidance and clarification to supervisors and track maintenance personnel on standards, proper operating techniques, and work procedures
- Completes full investigations in response to equipment / operator related incidents / injuries
- Deals with various union issues
- Other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
- 10 years’ experience in track maintenance and machine operations
- Prior track inspection experience or equivalent would be an asset
- Experience in track construction and maintenance
- Experience in machine operations and mechanical aptitude
- Must be qualified or be able to qualify in the Canadian Rail Operating Rules for Level A100
- Must be qualified or be able to qualify in the Manual of Track Requirements
- Good working knowledge of business computer applications - including PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word are an asset
- Extensive travel (80% of the time) and work on various shifts and away from home terminal
- Subject to work in all weather conditions and to travel over rough terrain
- Courses or certification in training and development or adult learning theory are an asset
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Coordination and planning skills, including the ability to self-motivate and act as a self-starter
- Committed to health and safety standards and practices
