ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Supervisor oversees the safe, efficient and timely completion of truck work for locomotives while ensuring that production schedules are met, and work is completed in accordance with quality specifications and safety standards
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule and oversee routine inspections and maintenance on locomotives, auxiliary power units, freight cars, fleet vehicles and other related equipment
- Oversee repair in progress (RIP) on car and track repairs
- Responsible for Work Order creation and completion using a CMMS system
- Manage special projects including car modifications, rail hauling cars and derailed equipment
- Respond to major and minor derailments, wheel change out and inspections when Superintendent or Supervisor, Passenger Equipment is unavailable
- Arrange service to offsite equipment including inspection and repairs as required
- Source and order special materials needed for project completion
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of all hazardous products and waste
- Meet daily with the team to discuss the day-to-day operations including prioritizing work
- Complete health and safety observations
- Complete Intelex reporting
- Supervise, educate and promote a safe work environment ensuring the following:
- work performed meets AAR, Transport Canada and other rules and regulations
- the availability of PPE and employee compliance with PPE as required
- compliance with health and safety and company policies, including reporting, investigation of incidents, facilitating first aid and transportation for employees as needed
- Coordinate sufficient staffing for repairs to reduce equipment downtime ensuring:
- that employees have proper tools and equipment to perform the work
- proper staff planning based on vacation and other time off requests in coordination with the Operations Support Manager
- applicable training is current to meet AAR, and Transport Canada qualifications,
- forecast future training needs
- Schedule apprentice training and rotation in conjunction with the apprenticeship committee
- Update training materials and standard operating procedures (SOP) are updated
- Participate in the recruitment, onboarding and training of new employees
- Manage performance and attendance and address concerns
- Manage time off requests and work accommodations
- College diploma in a mechanical related field
- Trade Certification in Railway Car Technician (268R), Electrician – Construction and Maintenance 309A, Automotive Service Technician 310S, Truck and Coach Technician 310T, Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician 421A or related trade certificate is preferred
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS): Hexagon, SAP or Oracle would be an asset
- Sound knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems as they apply to railway equipment components, and facilities.
- 3-5 years of experience working in railway, trades, heavy equipment or industrial environment
- Knowledge of railway, railway equipment and diagnostics is preferred
- Previous supervisory experience, preferably within a unionized environment
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing teams in an operational setting
- Excellent communication skills
- High level of organization and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based platforms (Teams, SharePoint)
- Valid driver’s license
- Prior safety training preferred (First Aid/CPR/WHIMIS/fall arrest/overhead crane training/transportation of dangerous goods)
