ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Supervisor, Signals and Communication will lead the signal employees as well as ensure that signals equipment, wayside detection systems and the train radio communications network is maintained for trains and track forces across the system to ensure safe and reliable railway operations. 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes and carries out an effective preventative maintenance program and expedites efficient corrective repairs following signal failures and/or damage
  • Ensures compliance with standards, laws and codes such as Transport Canada and AAR Regulations
  • Plans, directs and oversees the completion of all major signal department projects.
  • Expedites all emergency calls, 24/7/365, and determines priorities and arranges for corrective action as necessary
  • Arranges and oversees inspection and testing of signal equipment to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Works with Manager in the coordination of work for Signals employees
  • Investigates and reports on all accidents and incidents using the Intelex system
  • Human Resource responsibilities such as performance management including discipline, training, disability management, WSIB correspondence
  • Administers the collective agreement and participates in negotiations
  • Completes work observations of employees and ensures adherence to safe work procedures and workplace policies
  • Attends health and safety meetings/tailgate meetings
  • Trains and educates employees of any hazards or trends related to safety
  • Requisitions/purchases materials, parts and tools and recommends new equipment acquisitions
  • Supports manager, scrutinizing and certifying accounts, weekly timesheets and employee expense submissions and approving invoices for payment as appropriate.
  • Prepares estimates for the installation and maintenance of signal equipment for the Railway and customers
  • Keeps informed and up to date on technical development in the industry
  • Ensures all signal department technical plans and reporting documents are kept current, up-to-date and according to standards
  • Contributes to Enterprise Asset Management planning and implementation
  • Performs other related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Advanced college diploma in Electronics, Electrical or Telecommunication or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in signals maintenance and/or installation or expertise in telecommunication
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Qualified as Signal Maintainer
  • Canadian Rail Operating Rules qualified or the ability to qualify
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and schematics
  • Strong working knowledge of all signal systems, codes and practices
  • Working knowledge of VHF mobile radio and wireless-based communications
  • Good knowledge of electronics, electrical and mechanical fundamentals
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and interpret the requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Valid G driver’s license
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Budgeting experience will be considered an asset
  • Experience interpreting and applying collective agreement language
  • Ability to manage priorities and plan work accordingly
  • Demonstrated leadership and planning skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of escalating issues
  • Must be committed to health and safety
