ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Engineer, Rail Infrastructure is accountable for delivering a comprehensive range of technical services and engineering support within ONTC’s Rail Infrastructure Department, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of rail systems.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review applications for new crossings and determine the suitability of the location in accordance with various regulations, standards, and operational requirements in coordination with the Rail Infrastructure team.
  • Complete construction estimates as required.
  • Perform site visits as necessary to ensure accuracy of crossing design and compliance with applicable requirements and regulations.
  • Work with the legal department on renewals, amendments and terminations of crossing agreements. 
  • Assist with reviews of Crossing Safety Assessments to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist with the creation and/or documentation of new or updated internal processes or policies to meet compliance objectives.
  • Assist with documentation submissions to regulatory agencies by providing required information. 
  • Assist with analysis of Rail Infrastructure improvements/requirements, documentation and record keeping. 
  • Research historical information / files / drawings / agreements / correspondence relating to ONTC structures, property, crossings, etc.
  • Organize, update and maintain Rail Infrastructure records and logs of all drawings.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings submitted by third parties.
  • Assist with technical aspects of procurements and contract drafting. 
  • Assist with technical reviews of procurement evaluations.
  • Review submissions from external consultants and review for accuracy. 
  • Provide technical assistance/guidance to various team members in the Rail Infrastructure Department.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) 
  • 3 or more years’ experience in engineering and construction
  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of railroads and Canadian Rail Operating Rules is considered an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory instruments and standards
  • Familiarity with Transport Canada’s Grade Crossing Regulations and standards would be a benefit 
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel occasionally
  • Commitment to health and safety
