ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Production Manager holds a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Diesel Shop and Wheelhouse. They will be responsible for establishing priorities, work standards, developing plans as well as performance management of staff.

The Production Manager holds a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Diesel Shop and Wheelhouse. They will be responsible for establishing priorities, work standards, developing plans as well as performance management of staff.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Management Team to ensure successful operations of department.
- Provide coverage and support as defined by Senior Manager in the absence of the Senior Manager of Operations, including oversight of all employees on the shop floor.
- Manage internal and external locomotive overhauls including overseeing work processes.
- Develop methods and techniques for productivity improvements and ensure work conforms to specifications.
- Monitor production schedules to ensure work is completed in accordance with customer contract obligations.
- Oversee work processes to ensure budgets are adhered to and take action to correct/adjust as necessary.
- Create operational and capital budget submissions.
- Forecast and plan for required equipment for shop, including sourcing with vendors.
- Assist with the preparation of tender submittals and the implementation of new contracts.
- Review reports to ensure all labour is properly allocated to appropriate program(s), ensuring any discrepancies are corrected promptly.
- Manage direct supervisors and their direct reports.
- Support supervisors with training requirements and instruction for unionized staff
- Mentor and support the learning and development of shop employees, production support staff, and supervisory team.
- Works collaboratively with Human Resources on employee and labour relations matters including investigations, discipline, attendance, conduct and performance management.
- After hours work, off-site work and/or travel to attend calls, derailments and other duties as required from time-to-time.
- Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations within the workplace.
- Red Seal License in Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A), Truck and Coach Technician (310T), Automotive Technician (310S), or Electrician (442A, 309A)
- College diploma in Business Administration or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of recent experience managing commercial operations as well as managing or supervising a team in a unionized environment
- Experience in labour and employee relations and administration of collective agreements
- Leadership training and project management experience are an asset
- Experience in change management and implementing new procedures
- Knowledge of railway mechanical equipment would be considered an asset
- Proficient use of computer systems including MS office including MS project
- Experience managing a departmental budget
- Strong communication with highly effective listening skills
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Commitment to company health and safety
