ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
As part of the RRC production team, the Supervisor will ensure a safe work environment for all workers while ensuring timely, efficient, and profitable completion of rail car refurbishment projects while meeting quality specifications and customer expectations.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervision of direct reports to ensure performance and completion of work in a safe, timely, efficient manner and in compliance with all the requirements/specifications.
  • Ensure employees are informed and trained in the work to be performed and adhere to the company rules, policies and procedures including all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete employee performance evaluations.
  • Participate in interviews, and the on boarding of new employees.
  • Plan and schedule work activities and address current and unforeseen issues.
  • Assign staff to daily duties to meet production schedule requirements.
  • Update daily task completion targets and investigate task parts shortages.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss, share, problem solve, and plan on production related matters so they can be communicated to direct reports, other internal stakeholders and enable timely and informed decision making.
  • Periodic reporting/communication to keep all stakeholders informed and enable timely problem solving and decision making. 
  • Work with the planning department in scheduling daily tasks and targets.
  • Coordinate inspection planning with QA.
  • Conduct regular periodic health and safety meetings and discussions with direct reports to ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations and best practices and address relevant issues in the workplace.
  • Report hazards / incidents to senior management.
  • Conduct health and safety investigations determining root cause and conclusion, action plans, etc.
  • Complete daily Intelex observations.
  • Conduct tailgate meetings with employees at the beginning of each shift for general information as well as job assignments.
  • Conduct monthly health & safety meeting with employees.
  • Plan overtime or extra work with the evening and night shifts. 
  • Work collaboratively with HR/Health and Safety on requests for workplace accommodation and WSIB cases.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Secondary School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • Red Seal trade certificate preferred 
  • Over 3 years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in manufacturing methods and techniques and quality assurance and safety principles and practices
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints and documentation 
  • Project planning, scheduling and leadership experience
  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, AS 400)
  • Leadership skills with the ability to foster a positive team environment
  • Planning and organizing, problem solving, and conflict management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 3 – 5 years of tradesperson experience preferred
  • Health and Safety certifications (CPR/First, Fall Arrest, Asbestos Remediation, WHMIS) are a significant advantage
  • Commitment to health and safety
