ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The role of the Manager of Business Planning and Intelligence is to guide the organization’s strategic planning. This role leads the yearly business planning process, formulates the Business Plan and Annual Report and tracks progress against annual targets, providing performance reports. Essential to the role is the support of all company business cases, delivering analysis and insights that support strategic decision-making and strengthening performance indicators and multi-year financial goals. 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Planning
  • Establish and continuously improve an annual business plan process for ONTC and guide the organization through this process annually
  • Represent ONTC in meetings with MTO Agency Oversight Branch, ensuring the business plan process is aligned to key timelines and meets all Provincial directives including Agencies and Appointments Directive
  • Research and keep up to date on the requirements for both publications 
  • Gather, write and verify content and data for both the Business Plan and Annual Report
  • Work with senior leaders to understand their business planning needs, business case development and performance measures for the annual business plan as well as multi-year planning
  • Work with Finance team to ensure financial and annual operating plans are reflective of the business plans
  • Coordinate and manage cross-functional teams to improve business planning methods
  • Works with HR Department and senior leaders to transform business needs into workforce planning requirements
Business Intelligence (BI)
  • Design and implement business intelligence strategies to provide actionable insights and support decision-making processes
  • Ensure data quality, consistency and security through the establishment of robust data governance practices in conjunction with IT 
  • Collaborate with business leaders to understand their data needs and translate them into BI solutions
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of business strategies and processes
  • Apply, where necessary, advanced analytics techniques, including predictive modeling and trend analysis, to support strategic decision making
Development of Business Cases
  • Lead the establishment and implementation of business case processes
  • Draft business cases and engage the team when refinement or additional content is needed
  • Review all business cases to ensure data for compelling cases 
  • Analyze proposed projects or initiatives to determine whether they should be approved and implemented (including cost assessment, benefits, and risks)
  • Work with senior leaders on the development of required business cases 
  • Team Leadership and Development
  • Supervise and mentor the team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on business planning and intelligence processes.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to direct reports, supporting their growth and development.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting or any other Finance related degree
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in business planning, financial analysis or business intelligence
  • Proven experience in managing and developing a team
  • 5+ years’ experience in progressively senior roles
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, including excel, reporting tools and experience with BI tools such as Power BI
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
  • Strong organization and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey financial and non-financial information
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams to build strong working relationships
