ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Manager, Motive Power Technical Support is responsible for overseeing the technical support and parts management for the Diesel Shop, ensuring timely availability of components for servicing and repairs. This role includes managing inventory, responding to technical inquiries, and driving business development by sourcing suppliers and optimizing cost-efficiency.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Research and source parts, tools, and components for locomotives and shop equipment and those required by workers to perform operational duties
  • Manage inventory levels of components to ensure locomotives can be readily serviced and repaired
  • Work with Stores to establish stock levels of critical items based on operational requirements and ensure availability
  • Maintain, update, and evaluate stock levels through computerized database system
  • Complete physical inventory counts and inspection of parts/components for the area of responsibility
  • Key contact for customer inquiries for parts pricing and availability
  • Respond to technical inquiries and advise on solutions
  • Prepare quotes accurately and in a timely manner for internal and external customers
  • Oversee shipment of parts to internal and external customers ensuring accuracy and timely preparation of shipping documents and materials and determine shipping method
  • Develop, maintain, and grow positive relationships with customers and suppliers and build new opportunities
  • Establish pricing contracts to obtain best possible price on components and reduce overall company cost
  • Responsible for the business development for the Diesel Shop, including sourcing new suppliers, making contacts within the industry, and identifying new opportunities
  • Business planning including procurement of parts and components and selling/reselling parts to internal and external customers
  • Respond to emails, phone calls and radio traffic
  • Be fully informed on production status and provide detailed and accurate information to stakeholders
  • Conducts shop tours for visitors and clients
  • Participate in employee recognition events
  • Actively gather and contribute to continuous improvements to increase efficiencies including inspiring staff to embrace a continuous improvement culture
  • Interact with Unifor Local 103 Unit 12 pertaining to provisions of the collective agreement
  • Complete daily observation requirements and ensure supervisors complete their observation requirement
  • Oversee the work of and address any issues involving direct reports
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Red Seal License in Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck and Coach Technician, Automotive Technician, or 8000 hours in Apprenticeship under one of the mentioned trades
  • More than 5 years of recent related work experience in mechanical/electrical corrective, preventive, and structural maintenance as well as troubleshooting, installation, layout and planning
  • Extensive experience using mechanical tools and devices
  • Strong knowledge of mechanics, electrical, diesel, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • More than 5 years of recent experience managing or supervising a team
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with blueprints and drawings
  • Experience and knowledge of railroads, locomotives, troubleshooting, maintenance programs and mechanical requirements an asset
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly diagnose issues and develop effective solutions
  • Knowledge of safety codes and demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner. 
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
